Yieldstreet was thrilled to welcome George Moriarty, Chief Content Officer of InvestmentNews, and Ron Suber, member of the Board of Directors at both Qwil and Yieldstreet, to host a webinar on how COVID-19 and the economic slowdown can shape the future of investing and financial services.

George Moriarty has over three decades of experience in the financial services and brokerage industry. Prior to joining InvestmentNews, he has held the position of editor-in-chief at companies such as Seeking Alpha, Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management, and TheStreet.com.

Ron Suber, who is a member of Yieldstreet’s Board of Directors, describes himself as equal parts entrepreneur, executive, sales, marketing, branding, mentor, student, and coach with a medium IQ (Intelligence Quotient), high EQ (Emotional Intelligence Quotient), and high AQ (Adversity Quotient). Ron has a history of creating and executing successful strategies, raising debt and equity for FinTech ventures, and collaborating with, and having fun on winning teams. Ron is an advisory board member to Juvo, Unison, Money360, House Canary, MoneyLion, EarnUp, Sundae, Even Financial, and eOriginal.

In this webinar, George and Ron touched on several points including:

  • How technology can streamline the education of new investors by introducing them to new and more sophisticated asset classes
  • Post COVID-19 innovations in the financial services industry
  • The new frontiers in investment diversification

One of the key takeaways from George and Ron’s discussion was the importance of diversification. In terms of investing and personal finance, the most important reminder we received amidst the COVID-19 crisis and economic slowdown is how important it is to diversify one’s investment portfolio. As individual investors look at debt markets, there are other considerations to take into account beyond the yield and coupon rate. These investors should pay attention to:

  1. First lien on the asset
  2. Downside protection
  3. Term and duration
  4. The equity runway
  5. Increased rates with risk
